Junior Engineer (Telecom) in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is the newest and most distinctive post in the SSC Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 (F. No. HQ-C-3019/1/2026-C-3, dated 02.09.2026). Unlike the Civil, Mechanical and Electrical posts, JE (Telecom) requires a Bachelor’s Degree — a diploma is not sufficient — and the paper is set at graduation level, not diploma level.
JE (Telecom) is also conducted in a separate batch from all other subjects, and it has its own merit list.

Selection Process
- Paper-I (CBE) — qualifying; conducted in a separate batch for Part-G.
- Paper-II (CBE) — a separate merit list is drawn for JE (Telecom), based on normalised Paper-II scores.
- Post Preference via the online Option Form before the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA); preferences once submitted are final and irreversible.
- Document Verification by the Department of Telecommunications after the final result.
Tie-breaking order: marks in Part (i) of Paper-I → marks in Part (ii) of Paper-I → date of birth (older placed higher) → alphabetical order of names.
Preparation Strategy for SSC JE Telecom
- The Part-G syllabus is essentially a GATE EC-level syllabus. If you have prepared for GATE ECE, you are already 80% of the way there — the difference is depth of numericals, not topic coverage.
- Engineering Mathematics, Network Analysis, Signals & Systems and Digital Circuits are the highest return-per-hour blocks; they are also the most formula-stable.
- Analog and Digital Communications carry the most weight of the specialised topics — modulation schemes, PCM/DPCM and BER analysis appear repeatedly.
- Electromagnetics is the most commonly skipped section; even covering transmission lines, Smith chart and waveguides alone converts well.
- Since Part-G runs in a separate batch, expect the shift-level normalisation to matter — accuracy under time pressure beats volume.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a diploma holder apply for SSC JE Telecom 2026?
No. JE (Telecom) in DoT requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in one of the specified branches. A diploma does not qualify.
Which degree branches are eligible?
Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or Instrumentation.
Is the JE Telecom paper harder than the other branches?
It is set at graduation level rather than diploma level, so the depth is greater. The topic list closely mirrors a GATE ECE syllabus.
Can visually handicapped candidates apply?
Yes. JE (Telecom) in DoT is the only post in this examination identified as suitable for VH (Low Vision) candidates.
Can I apply for both JE (Telecom) and Scientific Assistant in IMD?
Yes, subject to fulfilling the essential qualification for each. However, you must appear in the respective paper opted for in the online application form.
