GATE 2027 · NEWS UPDATE

GATE 2027 Registration Postponed: New Dates, Late Fee Deadline & What Changed

IIT Madras has pushed the GOAPS portal opening from 14 August to 27 August 2026. Here are the revised dates, everything else that’s new in GATE 2027, and exactly what DA aspirants should do with the extra two weeks.

Exam: Feb 6–21, 2027

By Piyush Wairale · GATE DA Educator & Course Instructor, IIT Madras BS Programme · Updated August 2026

Key Takeaways

• Registration now runs 27 August – 27 September 2026, with a late-fee extension to 5 October — a roughly two-week shift from the original 14 August – 21 September window.

Exam dates are NOT postponed: GATE 2027 stays on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, results on 19 March 2027.

• Fees are unchanged: ₹1,000 per paper (female/SC/ST/PwD) and ₹2,000 (others), +₹500 in the late window.

• Use the extra time to set up your Aadhaar-linked DigiLocker account — GATE 2027’s new facial-recognition verification depends on it.

As always, treat gate2027.iitm.ac.in as the single source of truth — I’ll update this page if IIT Madras revises the window again.

Everything Else That’s New in GATE 2027

The postponement is one item in a bigger set of changes IIT Madras announced for this cycle:

DigiLocker + facial-recognition verification. Registration identity checks now run through an Aadhaar-linked DigiLocker account with facial recognition — set yours up before 27 August so the form doesn’t stall mid-way.

Syllabus revised after five years. Test-paper syllabi have been refreshed across GATE 2027. Verify your DA plan against the current outline in my section-by-section GATE DA 2027 syllabus breakdown.

A new Robotics & Automation (RA) paper joins the roster (30 papers total), and Textile Engineering (TF) becomes a section inside XE. RA also enters the two-paper combination lists — relevant if you’re weighing DA plus a second paper.

Everything else holds: 65 questions for 100 marks (15 GA + 85 core), computer-based test in English, one or two papers per candidate, scores valid three years.

What DA Aspirants Should Do With the Extra Two Weeks

1. Set up DigiLocker now. Create the account, link Aadhaar, confirm your mobile receives OTPs. This is the new failure point in the process — clear it early.

2. Get your photo and signature exam-ready. A recent, plain-background photograph matters more than ever with facial matching in the loop. The full specs and checklist are in my step-by-step GATE DA 2027 registration guide.

3. Decide your paper combination. One paper or DA + CS/MA/ST? The fee doubles but so do your options; you can skip a paper on exam day but can’t add one later.

4. Don’t pause preparation. The exam did not move — you have the same runway to February. Keep to your plan with the GATE DA preparation strategy and free subject-wise YouTube playlists.

FAQs: the GATE 2027 Postponement

Why was GATE 2027 registration postponed?

IIT Madras has not published a detailed reason; the shift accompanies the rollout of the new DigiLocker-based verification system. The revised window is 27 August – 27 September 2026.

Are the GATE 2027 exam dates postponed too?

No. The exam remains on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, with results on 19 March 2027. Only the application window moved.

Did the application fee change with the new dates?

No — ₹1,000 per paper for female/SC/ST/PwD candidates and ₹2,000 for others, with ₹500 extra in the late window ending 5 October.

Could the dates shift again?

Possible but uncommon once a revised window is out. Check gate2027.iitm.ac.in before acting on any date — this page will be updated if anything changes.

What should I do first when the portal opens?

Register early — scrutiny and corrections are smoother away from the deadline rush. Follow the step-by-step registration guide from documents to payment.

Stay ahead of every announcement: bookmark the GATE DA 2027 exam date & notification tracker, walk through the registration guide before 27 August, and keep preparing with the revised syllabus breakdown. Updates land first on my YouTube channel — subscribe so you don’t miss the portal opening.
